Our First Glimpse of Thor

Marvel recently released the first official image of Chris Hemsworth as Thor (above left), premiering in theaters May 6, 2011! You might recognize Hemsworth from the recent Star Trek film; he’s George Kirk, Jim’s father.

“The epic adventure ‘Thor’ spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.”

Though it may be too early to make a final judgement, I think Hemsworth is a great fit for the role; he’s definitely more rugged than his comic counterpart but I think it works! No sign of the helmet and hammer yet, but hopefully those will make an appearance in the next picture/teaser trailer. And I wonder how he’ll pull off Thor’s antiquated speech, if at all?

Regardless, Hemsworth’s got a great cast behind him, such as Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. And also, ‘Thor’ will be unique from the other Marvel movies, as it will draw more heavily on Norse mythology, but I hope ‘Thor’ can stand on its own sandwiched in between Captain America and Avengers.

What do you think about Hemsworth as Thor?

    • I know!! I actually didn’t recognize him until I looked him up on imdb :P And I can’t wait to see how Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins look too.

  1. How do you get all these girls here? I want bitches on my site, damn it!

The only thing anyone knows of Hemsworth is his five minute performance as papa Kirk in Star Trek.
