Batman Will Be a Trilogy

You’ve probably seen it everywhere by now (I’m getting my details from a third Batman movie is on the books! Still untitled, Batman #3 will be directed by Christopher Nolan, the director of the previous two films, and will be released on July 12, 2012.

Other than that, it’s wild speculation and rumors abound. You can see a great list of them all here at Comic Book Movie: apparently Johnny Depp or Dane Cook as the Riddler, Philip Seymour as Penguin, and Sienna Miller as Catwoman are all out on the table. Oh, and we have yet to confirm that Christian Bale is returning as the lead role. That might be important.

Personally, I don’t really care who the villains/love interests are. Batman Begins will always be my favorite. But I do hope that Nolan will consider relatively unknown villains to the wider community, just as Ra’s al Ghul and Scarecrow were. It’s not that lesser known villains are better, but the B-list of villains carry less acting weight (you can’t beat Michelle Pfieffer and Jim Carrey) and more artistic license than those supervillains–still phenomenal, of course–but already done.
