Sad news over the weekend: Jerry Robinson, one of the defining creators of Batman, has passed away at the age of 89. As one of Batman’s earliest writers, it was Robinson who imagined and created the Joker, not only Batman’s archnemesis but also one of the most popular and terrifying villains of our time, as well as Batman’s sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder. We have truly lost one of the greats, and his work is immortalized not only in countless comics, but also pop culture at large, especially the live action films (Nicholson and Ledger’s respective performances in particular). But of course this was not the single aspect of his life; of course, our condolences to his family, friends and community. May his memory be for a blessing.
